Portrait of Roy Lynn Barnes Jr.

Roy Lynn Barnes Jr., 45, of Falkner, Mississippi, passed away Saturday, October 24, 2026, at The Med in Memphis, Tennessee.

Funeral services honoring Roy’s life will be held at 12 Noon Saturday October 31, 2026, in the Heritage Chapel of the Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Billy Wade Studdard officiating. Visitation will be from 10 AM until time of service and there will be no graveside service.

Born June 14, 1981, in Osceola, Arkansas, Roy was the son of the late Roy Lynn Barnes Sr. and Velda Sue Wilson Winkles. He attended Kingsbury High School and worked as a frame builder at 4J Frame Co. in Blue Mountain, where he found both employment and a valued friendship with owner, John T. Jones.

Roy had a giving heart and a way of making friends wherever he went. He never met a stranger, and those who knew him best knew that beneath the challenges he faced was a loving person who cared deeply about others. Life was not always easy for Roy, but even while carrying burdens of his own, he remained willing to lend a hand whenever he could. His kindness could be found in the simple things—offering his time, helping someone in need, and looking out for the people he loved.

A wonderful friend and a protector at heart, Roy was described by those closest to him as “good as gold.” He understood that a person did not have to have much to have something worth giving. Sometimes it was a helping hand, sometimes it was companionship, and sometimes it was simply letting someone know they were not alone. Those gifts of friendship will remain among the most meaningful memories he leaves behind.

Roy enjoyed the simple pleasures of being outdoors, especially fishing and riding four-wheelers. He also had a tender heart for animals, particularly his dogs, Ripley and Fred. His family recalled that he would make sure his dogs were fed before taking care of himself, a small but telling example of his caring nature and the place they held in his heart.

Those left to cherish his memory include his four siblings, Donnie Barnes, Susan Robinson (Jerry), Bonnie Robbins, and Rebecca Wilson; his grandmother, Joyce Barnes; his wife, Cindy Lee Barnes; seven nieces; four nephews; and his special friend and employer, John T. Jones.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Leroy Barnes and J. C. Wilson; his grandmothers, Jo Willie Barnes and Doris Barnes; and his nephew, Shelton Wilson.

Roy’s life held both difficult days and moments of love, kindness, and friendship that deserve to be remembered. To those who loved him, he was a brother, an uncle, a grandson, and a dear friend whose presence mattered. May they find comfort in the memories of his generous heart, the help he offered, and the good he brought into their lives. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Ripley Funeral Home is honored to serve Roy’s family.
