LH Hurt, age 57, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at his residence.

Brad Vuncannon officiating. Burial will follow in Lowry Cemetery.

Born on September 9, 1969, to the late Leland and May Helon Stroupe, LH was a 1988 graduate of Falkner High School and attended Northeast Community College, where he played football for both. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and was employed by United Industries in Selmer, Tennessee.

If you knew LH, you knew he was one of a kind. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, and, without a doubt, the best Pop-Pop his grandchildren could ever ask for. LH was a go-getter who never met a stranger. He had a big personality, a bigger heart, and a way of making friends wherever he went. Once you met LH, you didn’t forget him, and before long, you were considered a friend.

LH loved sports and could often be found listening to sports talk radio, cheering on his favorite teams: the Ole Miss Rebels, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the New York Yankees. His love for sports went far beyond being a fan. He spent years coaching Little League and high school football and softball for Kossuth, Rienzi, Thrasher, and Falkner. He raised his boys on Jerry Clower stories and had them out on the ball fields by the time they were just two years old.

He also loved umpiring on the weekends, and if he had the opportunity to eject someone from a ball game, all the better! He would often call his son afterward just to brag about it. That was LH—full of personality, always ready with a story, and never one to keep his opinions to himself.

A true jack of all trades, LH was a hardworking man who could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed him. He loved cooking for his family and enjoyed playing softball with numerous teams over the years, including the local Mule Skinners. He built friendships throughout his life and collected more friends than anyone could ever count. His presence could fill a room, his laughter could bring people together, and his stories were sure to leave a lasting impression.

But as much as LH loved sports, the ball fields, and spending time with his many friends, nothing compared to the love he had for his family. His grandchildren were the light of his world, and he took every opportunity to spoil them and make memories with them. Being their Pop-Pop was one of his greatest joys, and the love he poured into their lives will remain with them forever.

And, of course, anyone who knew LH knew he was LOUD! He would be the first to tell you that he never yelled—he just talked loud! That was LH: genuine, outspoken, full of life, and unapologetically himself. He was a man who loved deeply, worked hard, helped others, and lived life in his own unforgettable way. Most importantly, he was a man of God, and his faith was an important part of who he was.

Though his sudden passing leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those who loved him, the memories he made, the friendships he treasured, and the love he shared will live on for generations. LH will be remembered not only for his larger-than-life personality and quick wit but also for his generous heart, his devotion to his family, and the countless lives he touched along the way.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of two years, Bridget Tillman Hurt; two sons, Christian Hurt (Bianca) of Kossuth and Hunter Hurt (Mandi Wilson) of Booneville; four stepsons, Robin Trull of Dumas, Logan Trull (Hannah) of Spout Springs, Julian Trull (Ally) of Dry Creek, and Kaden Trull of Dumas; two sisters, Sharon Myers of Ripley and Karen Lowrance of Dry Creek; two brothers, DL Hurt of Dry Creek and Bobby Joe Carpenter (Charlyn) of Pine Grove; twelve grandchildren, Paisley Hurt, Emmy Hurt, Bailey Reese Weeks Hurt, Bentley Hurt, Zoey Hurt, Hazel Tyra, Aubrie Tyra, Sophia Wilson, Emma Trull, Maggie Trull, River Trull, and Owen Hurt; along with a host of nieces and nephews and many, many friends who will miss him dearly.
